Southern backyard

Backyard with a Mediterranean atmosphere

This modern backyard garden impresses with its spaciousness despite its small area. This was achieved through a sophisticated division of space with few but very special details and a deliberate color concept. A change of material from paving to gravel creates a subtle contrast without visually cutting through the space. The color of the shell limestone also creates a warm, Mediterranean atmosphere.

Stone benches next to the pool invite you to relax by the water, accompanied by the gentle rippling of the water, which has a refreshing effect on hot summer days. From the interior and from the seating area, this beautiful ornamental pool provides a special focal point - both during the day and when illuminated at night. The central, space-creating element is the umbrella-shaped cut rock pear. It creates an exciting vertical line in the room and is also a wonderful source of shade. It is versatile and accompanies you through the year with different seasonal facets.

Adjacent slope as a challenge

This area was originally a residual area at the rear of the house. In addition, the narrow part of the garden faced the slope in front of it along its entire length, which narrowed it visually. In the design planning, the area was assumed to be a separate part of the garden. The light-colored wall and the contrasting red and silver-leaved shrubs concealed the slope situation and distracted from the massiveness and monotony of the slope.

The central focal points are the fountain and the rock pear, which turn the small area into a space of its own. The strong and large-scale materialization with stone slabs and gravel lends the garden section enormous importance - the former character of a secluded backyard was thus eliminated and replaced by generosity.

Points of light through plant selection

Plants were used very specifically and independently in this project. The umbrella-shaped rock pear plays an important role here as an important vertical element. Red and white montbretias were used in the area of the water basin, providing great color accents in this shady area. Behind the wall of the water basin are various shrubs whose flowers, leaf colors and structures form an interesting backdrop: for example, red maple, hydrangea or olive willow. White-flowering shrubs and perennials, such as astilbe, viburnum and hydrangea, create bright spots in the pots.
