A family garden on two levels

A great project comes to an end, because this family garden on two levels has undergone an impressive transformation. Previously, both levels were heavily overgrown, which meant that the space could only be used to a limited extent. The goal was to create more space and make it optimally usable. The newly gained space and the resulting rooms are the highlight of this garden redesign. A new view of the surroundings and the surrounding mountains opens up. At the same time, the privacy remains through the new planting.

A living and dining room under the open sky

On the upper level there was a wild planting. The previously unused space was cleared and extended with a wooden deck. The slightly raised terracing provides another level, breaking up the open space, creating a new room. Plantings on all four sides create a soft boundary that continues to create an open overall look. From the new lounge area, the view sweeps across the beautiful plantings to the dining area. At the end of the upper level is a new fire bowl that is used for more than just grilling. The element of fire provides ambiance and warmth on colder evenings. To complete the dining area, behind the house is a kitchen garden with fruit, berry bushes and herbs such as sage, rosemary, thyme, lemon balm and oregano.

The lower level is dominated by an open and large green lawn, which provides plenty of play space for the children and opens up the garden. Lush planting of shrubs and grasses runs throughout the garden and frames the design. The decking directly by the house has also been extended, creating a new space for sun loungers. A natural stone seating and lounging area interrupts the straight line of the lawn and guides the way to the upper level.

Impressions of the family garden from summer

In the garden was worked with different materials. Particularly impressive are the natural stone walls that run through all levels. They frame the garden and lead through the different areas. The largest natural stone wall in front of the stairs elegantly connects the two areas. At the same time, it acts as a picturesque canvas for the planting in front of it.

Impressions in autumn with flowering hydrangeas

Where in summer lush green and eye-catching purple as well as white flowers adorn the garden, autumn transforms the garden into a mystical place. The grasses transform and bear beautiful spikes. The color of hydrangeas also turns autumnal. However, the many panicle hydrangeas continue to bear blossoms long into the fall, creating a fairytale image. The colors become calmer without the garden losing its charm.

A planting for every season

The versatile planting concept leaves nothing to be desired: different and harmonious colors, a beautiful look, shade, space creator and even a kitchen garden. New stairs have been created on both sides, which have been decorated with soft ornamental grasses. The seating area is surrounded by a generous planting of greenery and white autumn anemones. In addition, the steppe sage with its purple color elegantly freshens up the outdoor living room. The planting also attracts many bees and butterflies, which also enjoy it.

So the planting changes during the year. The garden is constantly transforming and enchanting in every season.

The family garden before and after the transformation

The amazing change of the family garden is clearly visible, where before there were wild bushes and growths, now there is a large open area with lounge. The family garden has been significantly enlarged.

Another special feature

Our project manager Yannick Rothen worked as a foreman in the garden three years ago. He told us about the impressive transformation and the experiences with the family. "The transformation was sensational! The slope was made usable step by step. The last time I saw the garden was with the new planting. The development of the individual plants always fascinates me," Yannick Rothen.
