Garden Trend 2018:
Modern Living Garden

Homeliness in the garden

Modern home gardens are characterized by warm homeliness and loving decor down to the last detail. Plant pots made of clay or accessories made of wickerwork or enamel, bright and natural colors for plants and fabrics, and warm wooden elements effortlessly create a charming atmosphere in which you immediately feel at home. Fixed or modular outdoor kitchens and small furnished wooden garden cottages move the living room outside. Modern home gardens captivate with natural beauty and are also often designed to be useful: Herbs, fruits, vegetables, berries and other useful plants almost always find their place.

Nordic influence in the choice of plants and materials

Elements of Belgian and Dutch garden design are used in the modern residential garden: flowering beds, playful and homely design, as well as low-maintenance planting and orderly layout. The fusion of these design approaches can be seen, for example, in the choice of plants: Playful plantings consisting of flowering perennials and grasses are typical, with a very limited variety of plants. This reduces the amount of care required and brings calm to the design. Loosely growing plants in combination with solitary shrubs create exciting contrasts.

When choosing a material, other aspects are decisive in addition to the design perspective, which is why many garden lovers opt for a Swiss natural stone. The Nordic-looking clinker brick is also popular as flooring, for walls or fountains. However, not necessarily in the classic brick red, also beige, black or cream-colored stones are used with pleasure. Alternatively, natural stone in clinker form - so-called belt stones - is also used.

Detailed design

Modern residential gardens captivate with details: In addition to the play with finishes and textures, simple sculptures or special gargoyles can also set accents. Walls made of natural stone are used as eye-catchers and thus bring special charm to the garden. In addition to their structuring function, walls are often designed as seating and equipped accordingly with cushions or other textiles. The modern living garden invites to equip it with decoration, light or textiles just as lovingly as the living room.
