Gardens of the Year 2020: Three of our gardens are included!

„Gardens of the Year 2020“ award“gardens-of-the-year-2020-book-cover_WEB-low

For the fifth time, Callwey Verlag and the magazine „Garten + Landschaft“ were looking for the most beautiful private gardens in German-speaking countries. We submitted three of our reference projects and took part in the competition with great success: All three projects made it into the 50 most beautiful private gardens of 2020. The renowned jury placed particular emphasis on holistic concepts that turn the garden into an extended living and enjoyment space in an individual way.

We are very proud of the award and are delighted to present our three award-winning gardens to you here:

Trees like sculptures — A garden full of character

Large trees, airy grasses and clear lines with playful gravel paths dominate this garden design. Scots pines (Pinus sylvestris) with deeply fissured bark rise up amidst the gentle planting, forming veritable sculptures that lend the garden a mystical character. New levels have been created to gently divide up the garden. The water feature in the centre of the garden is a particular highlight. From every vantage point, you have a direct view of the fantastic gargoyles, while the planters placed behind them with an illuminated maple further emphasise the fountain.

The pictures of this garden are a very special highlight. They adorn the cover of the book „Gardens of the Year 2020“ and this garden redesign was even featured in Traumhaus magazine, inspiring many readers.

Detached house with pool — modern and cosy

Find out more about this reference garden here.

This garden of a large and modern detached house with wooden panelling was redesigned and enhanced with a pool with concrete surround. Thanks to retaining walls, the pool could be built at the very edge of the garden, making optimum use of the garden space. The previously unused canopy, which incorporates the material of the façade through the new wooden deck, forms a recreational area right by the water. On the side of the house, a wall with espalier trees in front of it serves as a privacy screen. In the entrance area, a multi-stemmed birch protrudes through the canopy and creates a light and airy overall impression with its loose crown.

This water garden was designed by pool construction professional egli jona ag executed.

Oasis in the centre of a winery — natural and elegant

Not only the owners enjoy using this garden, but also their guests. The garden with vines for the in-house wine production offers a spacious and unique area for tastings. A U‑shaped wooden deck in front of the unique conservatory offers a wonderful view of the surrounding mountains. A fountain in the middle of the gravel area is the centre of the garden and forms a beautiful conclusion to the vines. The natural stone wall to the side of the fountain can be used as a seating element and gives the garden additional structure. New planting emphasises the simple and elegant style of the garden.

This project was realised together with our partner egli jona ag planned and realised by them. The horticulturist then submitted this project to the Gardens of the Year 2020. We are of course delighted to celebrate this award together with you!
