Garden trends 2020

As we do every year, we have put together our personal garden trends for the year. Timeless designs paired with technology and naturalness will remain central to garden design this year.

1 — Space for rest and relaxation

The garden or patio is primarily a place for rest and relaxation. Far away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, the green outdoor living room provides cosy hours or offers a space for encounters. This makes the conscious design of the garden or patio all the more important for its owner. While suitable privacy screens in a wide variety of designs protect against unwanted glances, selected furnishings create harmonious details. Permanently installed gazebos, which offer a sheltered niche and are an interesting eye-catcher in the garden, are also particularly popular at the moment. The personalised garden design is rounded off with a customised lighting concept that not only ensures safety in the dark but also creates attractive eye-catchers.

2 — Digitalisation in the garden

The trend towards digitalisation does not stop at the garden gate: the lawn robot or lighting can be programmed via smartphone. In future, however, much more will be controlled via mobile phone and also linked to weather forecasts. The clever Gardena smart system, for example, takes care of all the work in the garden at the touch of a mobile phone. Combined in one system, the new technology takes care of professional garden maintenance, irrigation and optimum lawn care.

Our partner GardenTec GmbH specialises in garden technology. We have already planned and installed irrigation systems, rainwater tanks and lighting in countless gardens with you.

3 — Pools with naturally purified water

Swimming without chlorine or chemicals — this is possible in a swimming pool with naturally purified water. Thanks to the intelligent Living Pool technology the water is purified biologically and without chemical additives and is therefore gentle on the skin. Such natural pools are particularly popular in Swiss gardens and are visually indistinguishable from conventional swimming pools.

Last year, together with our partner egli jona ag planned and built an incredible number of living pools. In the shared show garden Gartenvilla there are a total of five different pools to view. We would be happy to advise you together with our pool construction expert in a non-binding initial consultation. Get in touch with us!

4 — Small gardens and terraces

Less is sometimes more, because you can create a personal garden oasis even with less space. Small niches create a cosy atmosphere. Taking into account the needs of the garden or patio owner, small areas can be planned and remodelled into unique and individual retreats. Deliberately chosen planting and the placement of accents play a special role here: they delimit the outdoor area and guide the eye through the small garden paradise.

5 — Organic garden

Biodiversity is the basis for life on earth. Biodiversity is dwindling, wild bees and other insects and animals are finding less and less food and living space. This is why ecological gardens are becoming increasingly important. By creating a habitat for various native plants and animal species, we can promote biodiversity. Native plants attract bees, butterflies and insects or provide nesting sites for small animals. Colourful flower meadows and fruit trees also provide valuable food. Biodiversity can be significantly supported by natural gardening and avoiding the use of chemical pesticides.

Inspiration is provided by our Reference gardens. Be it an English lawn, fountains, swimming ponds or seating areas: The possibilities in garden design are almost endless. We regularly photograph garden highlights with a timeless design.
